About The City Ticker

It's 51 years since Manchester City last won a trophy *. See the ticker.

A brief history

From 2000 to 2011, a ticker flag in the Stretford End counted the years since City last won a trophy: the 1976 League Cup. It went up at 24 and came down at 35, when City won the FA Cup. The original belonged to a fan known as “T-Shirt Jon”, and Stretford End Flags later kept a replacement going.

Why it's back

In September 2026 City were found guilty of breaching the Premier League's financial rules (Premier League statement). City say they're innocent and have appealed. The Red Army (TRA) have had a new ticker made, reset to 1976 and reading “51 YEARS”, and it's going back up in the Stretford End.

Why I made this

I'm Matt. A season ticket holder in the Stretford End and match-going fan since the age of four.

When I read Andy Mitten's piece in The Athletic on the ticker coming back, I wanted one of my own. Not everyone can see the flag in the Stretford End, so I built a version that keeps counting by itself, and that any United fan can share, download or embed on their own site.

It's just a bit of fun and banter.
